Diplomatic Summit in Alioth

A Summit for the Alliance of Independent Systems was hosted at Alioth's Irkutsk Station over the past week, attended by ambassadors and diplomatic envoys from a varied array of political backgrounds. Eleven fleets were represented, from both Alliance and independent governments.

In the words of one attache, "I've never seen much need for Feds, Imperial, or Alliance. But they’re looking helpful to the Indies, so I’m glad I made the trek."

It was a momentous occasion, where contrasting politics found common ground to discuss a framework for a quick response force, deemed necessary to protect all parties from the growing threat of Imperial and Federal expansion. The historic accord was host to a number of different treaties. Noted topics at the summit were faction sovereignty, mutual assurance of self-governance, benefits of increased free-trade, and the importance of communication as a means to maintain civility across a landscape of diverse cultures.

Alliance Pilot Liberates Slaves

A huge outpouring of support for humanitarian aid spread across the Lavian populace today as Alliance pilot Stephen Li delivered 400 human beings, including 86 children, to his home port, rescuing them from branded slavery in Kumo space. The sudden and unexpected arrival of so many malnourished and injured individuals saw station residents rally round to offer medical and food supplies, with many agreeing to host recovering patients. Mr. Li gave a statement to local news outlets:

"I don’t care what some bigwig politician says. I liberated these folk from Comanga and nothing’s going to stop me going back for more. These people are branded with burns bearing the Kumo insignia. Most of them are underweight and suffering from malnutrition. If they’re unwilling or unable to fight alongside the Crew, they wind up as slaves. As a result they’re considered not worth wasting the food on, so they’re just worked until they're used up. Most of the kids were in an industrial processing facility for Onionhead, sorting the crops by grade to be smuggled into the Federation."

"Archon Delaine can jump into a black hole," Li added, "And the Alliance needs to seriously rethink its priorities."

Alliance non-interference has been a controversial internal debate over the past six months, with detractors of the policy decrying Federal pressure as the primary cause.

Prime Minister Mahon Holds Influence over 1000 Systems

The Office of Alliance Prime Minister, Edmund Mahon, announced earlier this week the signing of its thousandth trade agreement. This is a momentous achievement for supporters of the Prime Minister, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of independent pilots everywhere in the Alliance. The achievement is impressive given the Prime Minister's relatively small supporter base and the work of diligent advisors. It is important to remember that Mahon's space doesn’t have the reach of the combined borders of the Federation, and has far less than the Empire. It is a well-earned accomplishment for a single power.

The Office of Alliance Statistics issued a statement: "I'm glad of the fact that Mahon has been able to expand in an ethically positive and synergistic way. In all honesty, it is very impressive. I am glad that we have been able to expand our influence to so many people, but it is simply a milestone and we will continue to move forward."

It is evidence that the Alliance should be counted among galactic major powers and a pointed reminder that they intend to maintain their autonomy.

Mercenaries Hired to Support Alliance

In a move that surprised political analysts across civilized space, the Mercenaries of Mikunn have officially pledged their support to the Alliance Prime Minister. In a press release earlier this week, representatives from the Alliance Elite Diplomatic Corps (AEDC) were credited for securing this high-profile contract for Edmund Mahon.

According to commander Lucifer Wolfgang, spokesperson for the Mercenaries, “it wasn't hard to make a deal. The AEDC knows we pull our weight. [...] At this point you can trust the Mercs handshake. We always do what we say we will do, and we announce it publicly, even the things some people don't like.” The spokesperson however declined to discuss the specifics of the contract.

The Mercenaries of Mikunn are a notorious group of independent pilots in the service of Tiberius Darvil, a duke from the frontier planet of Mikunn. They have been known to work with the Alliance and the AEDC in the past by helping the Wolf 406 Transport Co. secure a contract with Lakon Spaceways for the production of the Diamondback series.

Rogue Commander Violently Opposes Slavery

The controversial commander behind operation Hammer’s Wrath (unnamed for his protection) gave a heartfelt speech at a recent anti-slavery rally in 78 Ursae Majoris. This sparked immediate outrage from Imperial representatives in Alioth, who labeled him as a “bloodthirsty terrorist” and demanded his extradition. His one-man campaign against slavery in Empire space is believed to have cost the lives of several imperial citizens in the last months.

This rogue commander explained that he is left with no choice: "I know many see me as a common criminal or psychopath. Sometimes, this is not far from the truth. I was forced into slavery when my home world Durius was conquered by slavers. They took my home, my family, my dignity and my freedom. All I have left is my wrath… I do not expect anyone to follow me. I stand for a simple ideal that slavery has no place in this universe. "

The speech received a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance, united in the ideal of a galaxy without slavery.
