Famous Composer Seeks Patron

International superstar and composer Lilit Kassouni today begins a tour of inhabited space to showcase her new work, '400 Billion Stars'. Critics, who had a sneak preview during rehearsals earlier in the week, are already calling the suite a revolutionary blend of ancient Earth forms and modern technology that tells the story of Humanity’s place in the galaxy.

The tour begins at Sol, and will travel to Sirius, Alioth, Antal, and Achenar to close the final performance. It is widely understood that the composer is looking for a patron amongst the great and good of the galaxy, though in a brief press statement Ms. Kassouni focused on her music:

“It’s telling a tale of the Human experience thus far, and what we may encounter in future. Our history is both beautiful and terrible, and there’s a lesson to be learned in that. I hope it will speak to audiences across space, whether you’re living in the Alliance or the Empire.”

New Playwright Gets Mixed Reception on Mars

Rising star and literary luminary Ila Bhosale debuted as a playwright last night at the Mount Olympus Amphitheatre on Mars. Her play, “A Corral of Fools” was sold out within hours of tickets going on sale last month, and last night’s showing was packed. A well-known satiric wit, great things were expected of Bhosale’s first thespian offering.

The Martian audience responded positively to the play’s first half, which depicts a cunning stockbroker wooing her feckless toyboy in order to gain entry to his snooty but dysfunctional family. However, the second half saw less enthusiasm from the audience as a tinpot admiral blusters from behind a desk whilst cutting arms deals with big corporations, ignoring the increasing problem of his workers being robbed and then kidnapped by a dastardly highwayman. Other figures in the play include an emotionless cyborg, an Onionhead addicted holy man, and a bureaucratic office manager who sends people to sleep whenever he talks.

The response from Federal critics was mixed, with the Times of Mars condemning the play as “unfunny” and “nonsensical”, whilst the Regulus Observer declared it a “much needed biting lampoon clearly inspired by leading political figures; an acid wit of bold genius”. It remains to be seen how it will be received in Alliance and Imperial space.

“A Corral of Fools” continues its tour including stops in Barnard’s Star, Eravate, Lave, Alioth, Leesti, Facece, Cemiess, and Achenar.

Federation Hit Single Enrages Imperial Censors

Deathcore metal band Democratic Despots find themselves once again the focus of controversy with their latest single “Checkmate”. The song describes the assassination of Emperor Hengist from the perspective of Brenden Paul Darius and romanticizes the notion of the common man toppling the most powerful. Though it has enjoyed modest success here in the Federation, Empire censors have been outraged by the single - banning the Democratic Despots' entire back catalogue in response.

A representative from the Imperial Agency of Art and Culture was livid as he spoke: “This garbage is beyond offensive- it’s an insult to our late Emperor’s memory, and a spit in our collective faces as we mourn the loss of such a great man.”

When asked for comment, lead singer Damian Feldan grinned and responded, “Screw them. Bunch of tight-asses who wouldn’t know good music if it it was right next to them- kind of like how that idiot couldn’t see the assassin I guess.”

The band has further stated that they’ve been pleased with the response to their single, and plan to write an album with “Checkmate” as its thematic center.
